Sultan is a 2016 Indian romantic sports-drama film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner, the film stars Salman Khan as the title character opposite Anushka Sharma. The film focuses on Sultan Ali Khan, a wrestling champion from Haryana whose successful career creates a rift in his personal life.

The film was released worldwide on 6th July 2016 and grosses approximately 548 crore worldwide and became the fourth highest grossing Indian film of all time.

Plot

   Sultan Ali Khan is a middle-aged-ex-wrestling champion, who is living a medicore and lonely life in the small town of Haryana. Aakash Oberoi, the founder of a private mixed martial arts league, is encouraged by his father to hire an Indian wrestler to salvage the league's popularity. He travels to Haryana to make an offer to Sultan, who bluntly refuses and says that he has completely retired from wrestling. In search of reason behind retirement, Aakash confronts Sultan's close friend Goving, who narrates how Sultan's career began.

Eight years ago, Sultan fell in love at the sight of Aarfa Hussain, a state-level wrestler and the daughter of a local wrestling coach. Although she was initially cold towards him, Aarfa accepted Sultan as a friend. When he began to proclaim that she was his girlfriend, she rejected him by stating that she wishes to marry an accomplished wrestler like herself. Determined to win her respect, Sultan dedicated himself to  intense training and ultimately won a state-level wrestling tournament, as well as Aarfa's love. The two were married and became recognized wrestlers, representing India in various international tournaments like the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. When the two were announced as finalists for the Olympic Games, Aarfa discovered she was pregnant. She gave up her childhood dream of winning an Olympic gold medal for India, which was then fulfilled by Sultan. To her surprise, Sultan's accomplishment made him arrogant, and he acted conceitedly during a press conference. Even though aarfa informed him that she was nearing her due date, Sultan left to win another international wrestling championship. Upon returning, he was shocked to know that his newborn son had died due to severe anemia. The baby had a rare O negative blood type, identical to Sultan's, whose absence deprived the child of a donor. Angered, Aarfa decided to leave Sultan and reside with her father. Depressed from losing his wife and child, Sultan began to fundraise to open a blood bank in Haryana.

In the present day Aakash asks Sultan to join his league and promises that the tournament's prize money will fulfill his dream of opening a blood bank. Sultan agrees despite having become unfit and tired, and travels to Delhi, where Aakash introduces him to freestyle mixed martial arts coach Fateh Singh. After two months of training with Fateh, who is a former international champion, Sultan manages to regain his physique and learns how to wrestle freestyle. Although he initially struggles in his first fight, Sultan defeats the opponent using his own iconic wrestling style. He soon becomes a nationwide sensation once again by winning a series of matches and gains Aarfa's support in the process. During the semi-final round, Sultan wins the fight but is severely injured and has to be hospitalized. The doctor informs Aakash that Sultan should not fight again lest his injuries become fatal. Aarfa arrives at the ward and reconfiles with Sultan, motivating him to continue fighting. During the final match, Sultan overcomes his pain to defeat his opponent and ultimately wins the tournament. Reunited with his wife, Sultan opens a blood bank using the prize money and Aarfa resumes wrestling. A few years later, she gives birth to a baby girl, whom Sultan begins to train as a wrestler.

Sanam Re

Sanam Re is 2016 Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Divya Khosla Kumar and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and co-produced by Ajay Kapoor. The film features Pulkil Samra, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela as the lead roles while Rishi Kapoor appears in a crucial supporting role.

The film released worldwide on 12 February 2016.

Plot

   Six year old Akash lives with his parents and grandfather who is a photographer. Akash's grandfather predicts that Akash will fall in love with a girl who lives 500 steps aways from their studio, and that they will be in love forever but won't be able to be together. Akash takes the 500 steps and finds a tall girl older than him, disappointing him.

An adult Akash falls in love with his classmate Shruti, believing that Shruti is the one meant for him. However, Akash leaves Shruti to pursue his dreams and moves to the city for higher studies. In the present, Akash works for a private firm and leads a monotonous life. When he learns that his grandfather's health has worsenes, he decides to leave the city. He tries to find Shruti but fails. When he finds that his boss dismissed him, he rushes back and is asked to secure a big contract for his company if he wants to save his job. He travels to Canada to meet Mrs. Pablo, their company investor's wife who is now broken-up with her husband. He attends a yoga camp, where he becomes friends with Mrs. Pablo and learns that her real name is Akansha. Akash also meets Shruti there, who behaves like a tomboy. Akash pretends to be in love with Akansha to secure the contract, but he and Shruti fall in love with each other again. It is also revealed that Akansha is none other than the tall girl that Akash met in his childhood. Akash his again left heartbroken when Shruti leaves at the end of the camp, saying that they can't be together.

Akash realizes Shruti still loves him and embarks on a journey to find the truth behind her rejection with the help of Akansha. He learns that she left because she is suffering from a rare heart disease; she will die if her heart is not transplanted soon. A few months later, Shruti moves out of the hospital, healthy and cured. In order to be with Akash, she moves to the city to find him and is left shocked and heartbroken when she learns that she survived because Akash donated his heart to her.

Music

The music for Sanam Re is composed by Mithoon, Jeet Ganguly, Amaal Malik, and Epic Bhangra. Raju Singh has composed the original background score. They lyrics are penned by Rashmi Virag, Mithoon, Manoj Muntashir, Manoj Yadav, Ikka Singh and kumaar. The music rights of the film have been acquired by T-Series. The film's title track in the voice of Arijit Singh was released as a single on 22 December 2015. The second song, titled "Gazab ka Hai Yeh Din" was released on 1 January 2016. The full music album was released on 4 January 2016.

Mastizaade  is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language adult comedy film, directed by Milap Zaveri and produced by Pritish Nandy and Rangita Nandy. The film stars Sunny Leone in a duel role alongside Tushar Kapoor and Vir Das in lead roles with Shaad Randhawa, Suresh Menon, and Cicek Vaswani in supporting roles with Ritesh Deshmukh appeared in a cameo. The film was released worlwide on 29 January 2016.

Plot

   The story is about Lily Lele and Laila Lele (both played by Sunny Leone), twin sisters who organise a treatment center for sex addicts. Sunny Kele (Tushar Kapoor) and Aditya Chothia (Vir Das) are two spoilt brats who are sex-addict, meet the twin sisters and fall in love with each. Deshdrohi and Deshpremi (both played by Shaad Randhawa) are two look-alikes, Deshpremi is physically disabled and Deshdrohi is an womanizer. Lily and Deshpremi are about to get married. The story revolves around the various twists and funny chaos in their lives.

Soundtrack

The music for Mastizaade is composed by Meet Bros Anjjan, Amaal Malik, and Anand Raj Anand. Sanjoy Chowdhury composed the background score for the film. The lyrics were written by Kumaar, Anand Raj Anand and Manoj Muntashir. The music rights have been acquired by T-Series. Leone's popular song "Baby Doll" from the movie Ragini MMS 2 has been recreated and used in the film. The first song "Rom Rom Romantic" was released on 28 December 2015 on official T-Series YouTube channel. The second song "Hor Nach" was released on 6 January 2016. the third song "Dekhega Raja Trailer" was released on 13 January 2016.  The title song of movie was released on 19 January 2016. The song "Kamina Hai Dil" was released on 26 January 2016. The full music album was released on 29 December 2015.

Release

Critical reception

Times of India rated this film 1/5 stars and said "Mastizaade is a result of fractured script". Indian Express stated that "there are barely two and half laughs in Sunny Leone's film". The Hindu stated "Would you call this a film?". Sarita A, Tanwar of DNAIndia rated the film 2 stars and stated "A feast for Sunny Leone's fans, Mastiizade is shocking and scandalous".

Box office

The film's total lifetime collection is 26.44 crore.

Protests

On February 3, 2016, protests flared in the Punjab city Ludhiana, disrupting the screening and calling for the ban of this film. the protests were staged by the Hindu Nyay Peeth. Also, on February 10, 2016, and FIR against Sunny Leone and Vir Das was registered in the Adarsh Nagar Police Station in Delhi. The complaint was about the film hurting religious sentiments in the way that supposedly depicted promoting the use of a condom inside a temple. That same day, a complaint was filed with the National Human Rights Commission and the Central Board of Film Certification seeking a ban on the movie. It was based on the movie allegedly 'diminishing the dignity of wives and mothers of the Army men on duty.

Production

    Principal photography commenced on 7 September 2014 and was completed by December 2014. It was shot at various locations in Thailand and India. The film was initialy slated to release on 1 May 2015, but it was held back for almost six months by the Censor Board owing to its sexual content. On 13 August 2015, the central Board of Film Certification finally granted the censor certificate to the film. It is nw scheduled to be released on 29 January 2016.

Mohenjo Daro is a 2016 Indian epic adventure-romance film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. It is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur for UTV Motion Pictures and Sunita Gowariker for Ashutosh Gowariker Productions (AGPPL), and features Hirithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. It is a cinematic presentation referencing the ancient Indus Valley Civillization and its greatest city, Mohenjo-daro, a UNESCO World Heritage site (now in Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan). 

Set in 2016 BC at the height of Indus Valley Civillization, the story follows a farmer who travels to the city of Mohenjo Daro and falls in love with a high-status woman (Hegde), and who must then challenge the city's elite, and fight against overwhelming odds to save their civillization Gowariker took over three years to research and develop the script, working closely with archaelogists to ensure authenticity in the representation of his fictional story. The film was shot in Bhuj and Mumbai with brief schedules in Bhedaghat and Thane. 

The soundtrack album and film score are composed by A. R. Rahman with song lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar. The film was released worldwide on 12 August 2016 generally negative reviews. 

Plot

    The film opens in 2016 BC. with Sarman and Hojo and their friends, youths from the ancient village of Amri, travelling in a boat down a narrow river gorge. When attacked by a large man-eating crocodile, Sarman valiantly spears and kills it. They carry it back to the village where they are hailed as heroes. Sarman is unable to sleep: having lost his parents when very young, he is still haunted by a strange tune his aunt hums most days, I whom to trust. His uncle gives him an amulet to be used only in a life or death situation. (Sarman discovers that the amulet contains an insciption of the one-horned animal of his dreams, this animal is also the emblem of the city of Mohenjo Daro.)

Arriving in Mohenjo Daro to sell his wares Sarman is stunned by the size and majesty of the city. Its markets attract Macedonian and Sumerian and foreign traders selling strange and exotic wares and animals (including the hitherto unknows horses). Sarman later discovers that Mohenjo Daro is ruled by the tyrant premier Maham and his wicked son Moonja. Maham proposes to levy an additional tax on the farmers; this proposal is supported by all of Maham's cronies in the city council excpect the farm representative. The cote is passed and when the farm representative threatens to expose Maham -- by revealing why Maham was banished from the neighboring city of Harappa -- Maham promptly kills him.

Sarman meets the beautiful Chaani, daughter of the head priest of Mohenjo Daro and the 'Chosen one' who will liberate the city and bring a new dawn. He leads the farmers of Mohenjo Daro to oppose Maham's new taxes. (Maham;s soldiers threaten to kill him but Sarman, speaking for the farmers, says he prefers to die himself over paying the higher taxes which will invariably starve his family.) He gains access to the upper city by brandishing his unlce's amulet and, after saving Chaani from stampeding horses, he meet her father, the priest who, strangely appears to recognize him. Sarman and Chaani profess their mutual love for each other but Chaani tearfully reveals that she has been forcibly betrothed to Moonja. After a dance at the new moon festival Maham realizes Sarman and Chaani love each other and that Sarman is the leader of the tax revolt. Maham is about to pronounce death upon Sarman but upon realizing the people are rallying behind him Maham demurs and shrewdly offers Sarman the Baka-Zokhar challenge. Sarman proposes that if he wins the Chaani will be released from her engagement. It is accepted.

The head priest visits Sarman in his cell. He reveals how Maham was expelled from Harappa for illegally trading seesham tree with Sumerians. Maham entered Mohenjo Daro as a trader and quickly rose to become the trade chief in the city council. Maham had discovered that the mighty Sindhu river held vast gold deposits and so Maham proposed a grand plan to dam the river and divert its course so as to mine the gold and enrich Mohenjo Daro. The wise and upright premier Srujan opposed this plan but Maham somehow thwarted him and built the dam. Maham later had Srujan framed and falsely arrested for hoarding gold. With great romorse the head priest recounts how he and Drujan were threatened by Maham to oppose Srujan. Srujan was killed. The priest reveals that Sarman is Srujan's son and it is up to him to pruge the evil maha.

Sarman faces the most ferocious tajik mountain cannibals Bakar and Zikhar in a colosseum style arena. After a long and vicious battle he kills one of the cannibals but spares the other and the crowds of Mohenjo Daro surge even stronger behind him. Maham is enraged and now urges Moonja to finish the priest and Chaani. Moonja storms the scared temple and kills the priest and goes after Chaani. Sarman saves Chaani and kills Moonja.

Sarman leads the people back to the city council to challenge Maha. Chaani exposes Maham's grand pan to use the gold from Sindhu to enrich himself and to smuggle in brass and bronze weapons from the West. Sarman forces a vote of confidence in the city council where all the chiefs now stand against Maham....

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is a 20150Hindi film. It is a sequel to the 2011 film Pyaar ka Punchnama. The film stars Kartik Aaryan as Gogo, Omkar Kapoor as Thakur, Sunny Nikar as Chauka, sonnali Seygall as Supriya, Ishita Raj Sharma as Kusim and Nushrat Bharucha as Chikoo. The film was released on 16 October 2015. 

Plot

    Anshul a.k.a. Gogo (Kartik Aaryan), Siddharth a.k.a. Chauka (Sunny Nijar) and Tarun a.k.a. Thakur (Omkar Kapoor) are flatmates and best friends. Film start with Gogo meeting Ruchika a.k.a Chiku (Nushrat Bharucha) and gives her his number. Siddharth end up meeting Supriya (Sonnalli Seygall) at a family wedding and instantly falls for her. Thakur meets Kusum (Ishita Raj Sharma) while working out at the gym and they start seeing each other. The guys get into relationships with the girls. However, sweetness of lover starts to fade. Gogo disapproves of the proximity between Chiku and Sunny, her best friend. Siddhart helps Supriya and her family in their chores, but Supriya is not willing to take the relationship forward. Kusum does not support Thakur in his business adventure and is using him for her luxuries. Aftersometime, Gogo finds out that Chiku always badmouth about him with her friends, Thakur has an argument with Kusum about his business and he realises that Kusum is selfish. Supriya's marriage is fixed with an NRI Pankaj, when her parents find out about Siddhart's love they disapprove the match. That night Supriya arrives and says she will only marry Siddhart. The following morning Supriya's father arrives with police. Supriya testigies against Siddhart due to her father's threatening. Siddhart explains to her father that he will never see Supriya again and she can marry Pankaj without expecting any indrances from him in exchange for dropping the police case against him. All three boys leave the girls. The film ends with them acknowledging that the only place where they can get the true love is from their mother.

Reception

CNN-IBN gave 3 stars describing the movie as "The film is funnier slightly less misogynistic than the prequel. Hindustan Times praised the performance of the actors, stating "All the actors fit perfectly into their characters: The boys effortlessly depict what men often discuss during boys' talk and the girls play dumb as and when the character demands. the Hindu review stated "Carrying forward the flavour of the original, it is a film that many men make in their minds". The Economic Times review mentioned "Sure, the film may resonate with the masochistic sorts who like taking a whipping in love or even those who enjoy a few laughs on matter the joke, but the rest can easily skip this one." The seven minute long monologue featuring Kartik Aaryan was one of the highlights of the movie.

Rustom (film)

Rustom is a 2016 Indian crime thriller film written by Vipul K Rawal, directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Neeraj Pnadey, It features Akshay Kumar, Ileana D'Cruz, Arjan Bajwa and Esha Gupta in the lead roles.

The film is based on the real life incident of Naval officer K.M. Nanavati and businessman Prem Ahuja.

Principal photography of the film was commerced in February 2016 and it was released on 12 August 2016.

Plot

      It is the 1950s, and Indian Navy Officer Rustom Pavri (Akshay Kumar) is happily married to Cynthia Pavri (Illeana D'Cruz). Their marriage hits the rocks when Rustom discovers his wife's affair with his friend Vikram Makhija (Arjan Bajwa). After returning early from a trip to the seas, Rustom discovers Vikram's Love letters in Cynthia's cupboard. While trying to find her, Rustom sees them together. He returns home and waits for Cynthia to return and then confronts her with the love lettes, but walks away before Cynthia can explain. Rustom then gets himself a pistol from the Naval Ship's Armory and makes a Trunk Call to Delhi. Afterward, he searches for Vikram, first in his office then at his home. After Rustom enters Vikram's bedroom, the servant hears three gun shots and rushes to the room, to discover Vikram's body in a pool of blood and Rustom walking away with the pistol in his hand. Rustom immediately surrenders to police Inspector Vincent Lobo (Pawan Malhotra) starts investigation.

Vikram's sister Priti Makhija (Esha Gupta) hires the best lawyer in the City Lakshman Khangani (Sachin Khedekar) to get Rustom toughest punishment possible. A local newspaper TRUTH publishes the news adding some spice to it, which created a stir in the city. On the one side the Navy supports it's officer and asks police to hand over his custody while on the other side the Parsi community offers help by hiring a good defense lawyer, Rustom refuses everybody's help and decides to fight the case on his own. While the Editor in Chief of Truth, Erach Billimoria (Kumud Mishra), creates a sympathetic image for Rustom in public, Rustom's senior Navy officer Prashant Kamat (Parmeet Sethi) send two goons to his house to search for a set of documents, but they fail to find anything. Scared, Cynthia rushes to jail to inform Rustom. who hasn't talked to her. Rustom finally meets and listens to Cynthia's story, about how she was lonely and upset when Rustom went away to London for many months. Vikram took advantage of her loneliness and Cynthia fell for him, but on the day of Vikram's murder Cynthia had already broken-up with him for the sake of their marriage.

On Rustom's instructions, Cynthia blackmails Prashant Kamat for 5 crore rupees in exchange for the documents he needed. In the court hearing, Rustom unexpectedly pleads not guilty in front of the judge, which leads to a jury trial. The crux of the case is whether commander Rustom shot Vikram in "Self-defense" or whether it was Permeditated murder. At the culmination of the Trial, Rustom is found not guilty and is freed. Rustom reconciles with Cynthia.

Basically the film runs two mini stories in parallel i.e. Indian Navy Officer Rustom Pavri's personal life and a shady deal by Indian Navy officer. Finally both the stories merge into the single story.

The film was released alongside Mohenjo Daro on 2317 screens across India on August 12, 2016. Rustom collected approximately 14.11 crore on its opening day. The film collected 50 Crore in its opening weekend and 90.9 crore in its first week in India. At the end, film collects 127 crore which makes it a very successful film of year 2016.

Overseas

The film also performed well overseas, grossing approximately $3 million in its opening weekend.
